Industrial Relations
P.M.S.L provides services in as many different aspects of Industrial Relations as the environment can throw at us. Companies without in house expertise in IR can contract these services to carry out functions they would otherwise have to recruit full-time staff to do and companies with in house expertise use these services to work along with and support what they already have.
Industrial Relations is a discipline, very unlike law in many respects, although it includes knowledge of labour legislation, it extends far beyond the practice of law and is an essential support for legal practitioners dealing with issues in the Industrial Court.

Dispute Handling
- Provides outside third party assistance where objectivity and impartiality are needed
- Advises on methods and strategies for dealing with grievances and disputes in a sensitive and constructive way
- Drafts correspondence
- Trains supervisors and managers in dispute handling, and alternative conflict resolution
- Attends staff meetings to explain issues
Conciliation at the Ministry of Labour and the Industrial Court is a dispute resolution methodology in which the Conciliator tries to bring the parties to agreement on issues in contention by suggestion, direction and guidance. P.M.S.L’s Consultant’s represent clients during this process.

Local and foreign companies looking to invest or to buy over existing operations need, in addition to financial and legal advice, guidance on local labour legislation, industrial relations climate, principles and practices and an idea how stakeholders: unions, employer organizations, employees, Ministry and Industrial Court systems and procedures, act and interact in what has sometimes seen as a complex and hostile environment.

Collective Bargaining
Effective Collective Bargaining requires knowledge of and experience in:
- negotiating procedures
- market rates and conditions
- labour legislation
- job values
- conciliation and arbitration procedures
- alternative dispute resolution
PMSL will:
- do the necessary research which will form the basis for analysing proposals and making counter proposals
- advise the company about negotiating procedures and strategies at meetings preceding and following negotiating sessions
- sit in on negotiations to advise industrial relations staff how to handle their own negotiations; or do the negotiations on their behalf
